'Awesome Tapes From Africa' Starts Label

Awesome Tapes From Africa, a site that's been in daily rotation on our blog crawl, has just announced that starting this October it will try it's hand at being a record label.  This is exciting news - and it means that some of the more obscure, unearthed gems that they manage to find will now be available for sale, thereby putting some moula back into the original artists' pockets.  The new endeavor is set to ensure that the artists will receive 50% of all proceeds after expenses (that's definitely something we can get behind). The 1st release slated will be from Mali's Nâ Hawa Doumbia (out 10/18, distributed by SC distribution), a re-release of a recording done in '82 La Grande Cantatrice Malienne Vol 3. Check out the awesome artwork above - we can't wait to hear the music.  For more awesome mixtapes, check out our own mixtape series with our latest edition, Africa In Your Earbuds #2: Sinkane.
