You Need to Watch This Girl Sing Kenyan Oldies Over ‘Controlla’

Youtuber Michelle Bisonga effortlessly weaves Drake’s “Controlla” with a slew of popular Kenyan hits that have us feeling nostalgic.

In her Youtube video, Bisonga covers all of your fave Kenyan classics, including songs by E-sir, Swahili Nation, Nameless, Jua Cali, Amani, Wyre, Sauti Sol and more, over Drizzy’s beat. The singing starts about :27 seconds in.

Bisonga decided to record the fun rendition after seeing someone else do covers over “Controlla,” opting to only feature Kenyan oldies instead.

In an e-mail to Okayafrica she mentions : “I have loved music since I was young and I grew up listening to [these] songs. Whenever they would come on the radio I would simply lose my mind. Back then artists had so much drive and originality. We had music that would define us as a country. That's why I didn't cover ‘today's’ music.”

The memorable medley includes: “Mpenzi,” “Boomba,” “Bad Boy,” “Mos Mos,” “Lazizi,” “Kiasi,” “Bless My Room,” “Furahiday,” and ends with the actual “Controlla.”

Bisonga is working her way back into the music business after her previous band, Enzi, disbanded.
