Burna Boy Shares Hypnotic New Single, “Update”

Burna Boycomes through with "Update," the new single from his upcoming eighth studio album, No Sign of Weakness, due this summer.

The new P2J-produced single is a vivid record that recalls the sharp, colorful percussion that marked theAfrican Giant era. One can hear the thumping energy of "Anybody" in "Update," but Burna is now more measured in his evocation, promising to deliver sonic bliss to those who listen. "On a normal day, dem no fit touch my energy," the Nigerian star sings in the song's opening line in that matter-of-fact way that emboldens his anthemic records.

"Update" incorporates a sample of British R&B band Soul II Soul's 1989 hit,"Back To Life (However Do You Want It)". The dreamy refrain of "however do you want me" is layered over the piano-tinged drums, a fine pairing that, like Rema'srecent samplingof Sade, underscores the potential of blending soul influences and Afropop.

Burna has recently been spotted in Lagos, showcasing the lifestyle and charisma of a global star enjoying a well-deserved break after years of hard work. His luxurious persona was also captured in his December release, "Bundle By Bundle," a club banger with unmistakable intent.

"Update" continues in the same fashion but with even more nuance as Burna Boy flexes the vocal dynamism that makes him one of the most in-demand artists today.
