Tems, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Scorpion Kings & More to Headline Afro Nation Portugal 2025
Afro Nation is pulling out all the stops for its fifth-anniversary edition in 2025, with two of the biggest names in African music, Tems and Burna Boy, leading the charge. Slated for July 9 through July 11 in Portugal, this festival promises to be another big moment for the global African music scene.
Adding even more groove to the mix, Afro Nation has further announced a fresh wave of headliners, including globetrotting pop starAyra Starr, Franglish, Gabzy, Tiakola, and Inoss’B. The Piano People stage also announced Scorpion Kings and DBN Gogo, alongside Vigro Deep, Mörda, Oskido, KMAT, Shakes & Les and Rosey Gold.
Burna Boy needs no introduction to the Afro Nation faithful — he’s been a part of the festival’s journey since it debuted in 2019, and next year marks his triumphant return after a whirlwind year of breaking records and barriers. From lighting up stadiums across the world to becoming a global cultural force, Burna Boy has marked what it means to be an African artist in the international spotlight. But more than the accolades, it’s his magnetic stage presence that will make his performance in 2025 a can’t-miss event.
Meanwhile, Tems will be making her Afro Nation Portugal headliner debut. Tems’ rise from the alté scene to global stardom has been nothing short of meteoric, and her presence signals an exciting moment for women in Afrobeats. Fresh off her critically acclaimed album, Born in the Wild, she’s right there at the forefront of a generation transporting African music further into the mainstream, pushing the boundaries of genre and sound.
Afro Nation itself has grown from a festival to a cultural movement. What began on the beaches of Portimão in 2019 has exploded into a global platform amplifying the voices of African artists. Past headliners have included icons like Wizkid, Davido and Megan Thee Stallion, who are in their own rights bridging the gap between African music and the global stage.
As Afro Nation celebrates its fifth year, The Piano People stage, dedicated to the vibrant amapiano scene, is also set to return in 2025, bringing with them even more dynamic sounds to the beach. Expect more updates on the line-up as the countdown begins.
