Omah Lay Shares New Single and Video For “Moving”
The upbeat track is the lead single from the Nigerian singer’s forthcoming sophomore album, Clarity of Mind.
Omah Lay has typically been intentional with his releases. Having been on tour for most of the year, the Nigerian artist has now shared “Moving,” the lead single from his forthcoming sophomore album, Clarity of Mind. Omah Lay has been teasing the album title for a while now, especially on social media where his fans have eagerly awaited a new drop.
“Moving” sees Omah Lay embrace the spinning highs of living in the moment, which has been a prevalent theme in his music since he released the deluxe version of Boy Alone last year. Produced by Pontus Persson and LIOHN, the soundscape of the song soars with its colorful bass and string instruments, beautifully settled into the urgent yet mellow pace Omah Lay has made his sonic signature over the years.
The desert-shot visuals make for a cinematic entry into those sounds, evoking the thrills of a journey along with its surprises, including natural forces and human friendship.
As he’s consistently shown, Omah Lay’s songwriting is distinctly evocative and every verse has served that fact. On “Moving,” the bounce-along groove is the sonic pull, but with a closer listen it becomes clearer that Omah Lay is again charting the ebbs of a young person’s understanding of life. “This should be thicker than metals, these conversations / These things money can’t buy,” he sings on the post-chorus, but even that positive perspective is paired elsewhere with the heartfelt admittance that, “you can tell that I ran out of time / unavailable a lotta times…”
Such lightly-evoked ambiguity will no doubt thrill listeners, who still remain a bit unsure which sonic and thematic direction Omah Lay will take on Clarity of Mind. If there are indications, either from his new yellow-branded social media or the sunny burst of this record, it’s that Omah Lay is approaching the light. He’s moving.
