Durban Production Outfit Rudeboyz' Gqom EP
Durban production group Rudeboyz premiere their self-titled EP, boasting 4 tracks in the explosive underground electronic style of gqom.
Rudeboyz is a production outfit coming out of Durban, South Africa, formed by Massive Q, Andile-T and Menchess. The trio are sharing their latest self-titled EP, which boasts four explosive tracks in the style of gqom — the stripped-down electronic sub-genre that lives off syncopated kick drums and distilled melodies, and can currently be heard blaring out of taxi speakers and underground clubs across Durban.
Rudeboyz kicks off with"Get Down," the EP's most haunting and infectious tune, which blends sporadic synthesizer stabs with a broken beat bass drum. The equally dark "Mercedes Song ft. TD Snax" and "Mitsubishi Song" are both "odes to legendary presses of the pills that fuel the parties that run through the night," a press statement reads, while "Sambuka Dance" is a tribute to the clear liqueur of its title. Each one of these tracks creeps up slowly from its minimalist percussive and melodic content to form a truly dark and hypnotizing jam.
