Stream DJ Spoko's 'Motota Mutapa' Off His 'War God' LP [Premiere]
Stream DJ Spoko's bacardi house jam "Motota Mutapa" off his upcoming War God LP.
South Africa's DJ Spokois on the heels of the release of his debut album War God, the producer's follow-up to last year's dominant Ghost Town EP. The expansive 20-track LP furthers Spoko's explorations into 'bacardi house' — an original production style he's been cooking up for years in Atteridgeville while fine-tuning his engineering skills under shangaan electro mastermind Nozinjaand, most famously, helping craft the drum pattern behind DJ Mujava‘s massive hit “Township Funk.”
War God showcases several shades of Spoko's frenzied, kwaito-influenced beatwork, which pairs gritty military snare drums with pitched-up space synthesizer melodies to make for some downright addictive jams. "I can't cause the war alone,” mentions Spoko of the album’s title. “Now, I have the right generals by my side. Each and every song is a soldier. They have come together to move the music of the township to another level." Stream "Motota Mutapa," premiering here today, below and grab DJ Spoko's War God LP out tomorrow 9/23 on Lit City Trax.
