Danai Gurira's year is definitely off to a great start.

The multi-hyphenate star has just signed a 2-year deal with ABC which will see her developing, writing and producing a number of projects for the studio, according to The Wrap.

The deal comes just as the American-Zimbabwean actress's role as Michonne on AMC's original series The Walking Dead comes to a close.

Jonnie Davis, President of ABC Studios, spoke about the recent deal with Gurira saying, "From Zimbabwe to Wakanda to Broadway, there is no one like Danai Gurira." Davis added, "The scope of her talents and the breadth of her abilities are simply astonishing. We are over the moon that she has chosen to make ABC Studios her exclusive home."

Responding to Davis' comments, Gurira expressed her excitement at working with ABC studios in a statement that read:

"I am thrilled to work with Jonnie and his stellar team at ABC Studios. Their commitment to the feminine perspective aligns with my goals as a storyteller. I am excited to amplify unheard voices and bring to light narratives that will tackle universal themes while they simultaneously break barriers and bring new faces, voices and influences to the screen."Gurira has made some serious career moves following her debut on Broadway back in 2009.

Not withstanding her roles in major titles such as Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War andAvengers: Endgame, the actress has also produced critically acclaimed plays including The Convert and the Tony-nominated Eclipsed which starred Mexican-Kenyan actressLupita Nyong'o.

Gurira will also executive produce the HBO Max series adapted from Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel Americanah.
