Cameroon-based game design studio Kiro’o Games has just made history with the first African role-playing game on Xbox. Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan was released in 2016 on Microsoft Windows via gaming store Steam, then a comic book version of the title was released three years later. Now, it’s available to play on one of the most popular gaming consoles in the world.
Driven by storytelling, Aurion immerses players in a well-crafted, layered world with its own spiritual core. In the world, aurion is defined as the energy that connects the desires of all living beings. Auriotronics channel that energy to shape the world around them.
Playing as the king and queen of Zama, players embark on an adventure when an existential war breaks out. During the adventure, the king and queen are to fight for answers and a more wholesome world, using their auriotronic power to build a society where everyone can understand each other regardless of differences.
Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan has been lauded for its storytelling approach, its innate Africanness, and hand-drawn graphics, qualities that will earn it more players and fans as it reaches deeper in the gaming world.
The entrance of its debut, flagship game into the Xbox world continues Kiro’o Games’ aim of moving African gaming creation forward, as it looks to service a predicted gaming audience of over 400 million Africans by 2030.
