Letter from Nigeria: Signs of The Shrine

Field trip! That's right, some of us Okayafricans have decamped to Nigeria for a month. First stop: the New Afrika Shrine where, every Thursday of the week, Femi Kuti hosts a free rehearsal for his band (the show proper is every Sunday). We'd expected to do some serious partying at Fela's legendary nightclub, but had not anticipated the absolute spiritual experience it can be. Some of the young folk dancing in front of the stage could be mistaken for screaming Beatles fans from back in the day (or pre-teens at a Justin Bieber show, if only he spoke about how corrupt the States are). Click through to see our favorite signs that line the walls of the Shrine. Any blurriness due to... the dark environment... or... yeah.
