Video: Oy 'Market Place'

Ghanaian/Swiss singer Oy's "Market Place" lives in a rare (and outstanding) sonic sphere that carves catchy pop tunes out of African-inflected rhythms and field recordings from the continent — in a recent interview with Okayafrica, the singer revealed her use of uncommon samples like a "South African bird, ... audience clapping at the biennale in Mali, and rhythmical elements [like] knives being sharpened at a market in Ouagadougou." For the lead video off her album Kokokyinaka — which you can now stream in its entirety and buy on iTunes — the singer and a group of male choreographed dancers are seen out about an Accra market.
