What happens when old-school South African soul meets the new South African house scene? Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Mi Casa’s new collaboration "My Sugar" might hold some answers. Following Ladysmith's unexpected MTV MAMA performance, in which they showed they could hang in the contemporary music scene by remixing today's dancefloor anthems (including D’Banj‘s "Oliver Twist" and Uhuru‘s “Y-tjukutja”) the all-male a cappella group teamed with the Joburg-based house trio (who LBM had previously performed with at the Timbaland-produced Extra Cold Music concert in June) to produce a sweet, clap-happy love song. Featuring crisp horns and those tight, silky-smooth harmonies that the multi-Grammy Award-winning group is known for, the infectious single feels both new and classic.
